MILITARY LEAVE

Taking the Pregnancy
Home Leave

is chargeable leave (ordinary, advanced, excess) requested by a service member to return home or another place for maternity care or the birth of a child.

For absences related to pregnancy or prenatal care: Eligible faculty and staff may use extended sick time and/or available short-term sick time. Those who are pregnant on active duty are authorized six weeks of convalescent leave which is essentially maternity leave. An additional six weeks of Primary Caregiver Leave may also be authorized, and a “non-birth parent” is permitted three weeks of Secondary Caregiver Leave. None of these leave options are considered “chargeable” and they are not deducted from the servicemember’s accrued leave balance. In most cases you may also be permitted to request ordinary leave at the time of childbirth.
